Last week we saw one of the best football games of the year, as LSU held off Alabama 46-41 and cemented their #1 spot in the playoff rankings. Alabama dropped to #5 but is still very much in the hunt, with a rivalry game against Auburn to come.
As we discussed last week, the top four teams at the end of the season make the playoff to determine the national champion.
Minnesota was also a big winner last week, knocking off Penn State to remain unbeaten, but with a weaker schedule than the other top teams. The Golden Gophers moved up to #8.
This week, LSU plays Mississippi and Alabama plays Mississippi State. They’re both double-digit favourites. Minnesota plays rival Iowa in a tricky road game.
Two of the bigger games this week are on the West Coast, where #6 Oregon and #7 Utah try to stay on course for a meeting in the Pac 12 championship game.
That could get the Ducks or the Utes into the playoff, depending on other results.
Playoff Rankings (released this week)
1 LSU (9-0)
2 Ohio State (9-0)

5 Alabama (8-1)
6 Oregon (8-1)

This Week’s Games
Arizona @ #6 Oregon: Currently no line on this game.
UCLA @ #7 Utah: The Utes are heavily favoured here and will be in their remaining three games. They should run the table, win the Pac 12 South and meet Oregon in the Pac 12 title game.
Match Betting: Utah ($1.04), UCLA ($11.50)
Handicap: Utah -21 ($1.87), UCLA +21 ($1.93)
#8 Minnesota @ #20 Iowa: Minnesota has to back up after their emotional win over Penn State last week and do it on the road, in a hostile environment against a rival. Tough ask.
Match Betting: Iowa ($1.64), Minnesota ($2.26)
Handicap: Iowa -3 ($1.88), Minnesota +3 ($1.92)
#10 Oklahoma @ #13 Baylor: There’s a good chance Oklahoma wins this, then the two teams meet again in the Big 12 championship game in December.
Match Betting: Oklahoma ($1.20), Baylor ($4.60)
Handicap: Baylor +10 ($1.90), Oklahoma -10 ($1.90)
