Sportsbet has refunded $1.35 million to customers who backed the Canberra Raiders to win the 2019 NRL Grand Final, as well as bets in the outright market, after a heartbreaking defeat to the Roosters.
Over 38,000 customers received their stake back in bonus bets after a frantic final 10 minutes left both Raiders players and fans agonisingly short of their first Premiership since 1994.
The two sides were locked at 8-8 deep in the second half after Canberra had a mountain of possession. But the defending Premiers claimed the match against the run of play, with Dally M Medallist James Tedesco crossing with only eight minutes remaining.
The Roosters held on to win 14-8.
