Queensland star Alligator Blood and Kiwi Catalyst are set for another showdown in Saturday’s Australian Guineas (1600m).
Alligator Blood has drawn barrier two for Saturday’s Flemington Group 1 and Catalyst will start from four, in the eight-horse field.
The pair staged a stirring duel in the C.S. Hayes Stakes (1400m) at the same track two weeks ago. Catalyst headed Alligator Blood, but the David Vandyke three-year-old showed tremendous fight to come back and win in a close photo.
“That will go down in history that race, the little Queenslander fighting back off the canvas,” trainer David Vandyke said after Alligator Blood’s ninth victory from 10 starts.
Chenier, who was third in the race, has barrier five for the Guineas in a field which also features last-start Group 1 C.F. Orr Stakes-winning colt Alabama Express.
