Massive day in the three venues and Eagle Farm hosts two Group 1’s the Stradbroke Handicap and J.J. Atkins.
The Straddy looks an absolute lottery and the way the ‘Farm track is playing anything could happen.
Best: Masaff – Chris Waller trained import placed at 2800m in Europe. Third-up now and latest run was last to third this track (heavy 8, 1800m). Placed at 2816m in Ireland.
Sin To Win – Doesn’t win out of turn, but been close up last three, latest fourth to Sasko and D. Oliver to pilot.
Nashville Sound – wasn’t entitled to finish as close as he did when third to Sasko. Wide, no cover throughout, very game this track and distance.
Best: Nobu – did himself no favours overracing last start, but got home strongly. Better gate could help him relax and race a little closer in the run.
Aussie Nugget – ran okay last couple in heavy going, drier track could see improvement.
No Say In It – not far behind Sikorsky last week and made up a lot of ground, 1800m a plus.
Savaheat – good tough win this track and distance last start. Wide and worked from the 800m was still going strong at the end.
Best: Vassilator – came from well back for fourth to Iconoclasm. Will probably get back again, but should be peaking now and will be hitting the line hard.
Kenya – import having first start for Anthony Freedman. Jock had a lapful of horse at the end of a 1000m Mornington jump-out where he box seated. Market suggests has done well since migrating.
Iconoclasm – at the peak of his game and gutsy win here last start. Getting up in the weights, but no knock on winning form.
A Shin Rook – not far away behind Iconoclasm, got back from a wide gate. Third-up and much better alley for this.
Numbers: 12,10,1, 3.
Best: Barbie’s Fox – Won at Caulfield when first-up and then was huge effort here last outing. Wide throughout when 6th La Chevalee and was still in the hunt at the 50m. She’s G3 placed, third-up, 3kg claim, all positives.
Jolly Sailor – two from three and won with ease last start. This toughest test, but looks promising and drawn to box-seat.
Triton Rising – comes here after given easy kill when first-up. Showed promise when last in work.
Hi Stranger – gets out to his right trip and placed two starts this time in.
Numbers: 3, 12, 9, 2.
Best: Wandabaa – consistent filly and she resumed from a break with a fast finishing win over 1100m. Wide gate makes it tougher, but there was a lot to like about the way she closed late and extra distance will suit.
Misteed – she’s had three runs back now and should be ready to fire. Latest closed off well without threatening.
Enfleurage – This filly was G3 placed before a spell. At first run since February she chased hard and tired late behind Witherspoon on a heavy 9. Sure to be improved by the run.
Numbers: 2, 5, 3.
Best: Classique Legend – class runner resuming and trialled brilliantly in 910m trial (heavy 8). Drawn the outside, but may be the place to be in the wet.
Coruscate – racing in peak form, raced on speed and full of running when won in heavy at latest outing.
Southern Lad – may have needed the run last start when third to Coruscate, swimmer.
Numbers: 1, 8, 12.
Best: Phaistos – hard to go past the Godolphin four-year-old. Followed up a win here with a luckless second at Scone, when jock got a little lost. Bowman goes on, rails draw.
Archedemus – two runs in have been fair, tricky gate, but out to the mile should suit now.
Dealmaker – not the most reliable, but failed on heavy last start. Previous runs were solid, but prefer if the track is no worse than slow.
Numbers: 7, 2, 11.
Best: Itz Lily – taken back from her wide gate last run and had trouble getting a run in the straight. Once balanced she closed off strongly. Fitter for two runs and can be closer this time from a better barrier.
Opacity – made it four from six when she finished off strongly to win here after having the gun run. May not get those favours from a wide draw this time, but win was good.
Word For Word – did his best work late when 4th to Opacity and meets that horse 3.5kgs better.
Greek Hero – won first-up then 5th to Opacity. Shunted wide on the home turn finished in the pack, barrier one is ideal here.
Numbers: 9, 15,1, 10.
Best: Navy Cross – lumped 60kgs for tradesman like win, leading all of the way over this journey latest. Progressive type, top stable leads or box-seats.
Mishani Secret – should run this out as won 2170m two starts back. Struggled in first go at heavy8, but not disgraced last start.
Ballistic Boy – not keen on the shorts and query at 2200m, but consistent and rock hard fit.
Neptune’s Choice – badly weighted, but latest second to Navy Cross was solid.
Just Society – big odds and finished hard for fourth to Navy Cross two back. Latest didn’t handle the heavy, blinkers and bred to run the trip.
Numbers: 4, 15, 1, 8, 6.
Best: Wisdom Of Water – speed will be on here and can see this horse getting the gun run. Two from two this prep’ he’s won from behind before and his 4th in the Magic Millions, from near last was outstanding.
Rothfire – horses for courses and is four from four here. Primed after two runs from a break and gives every impression will handle first crack at 1400m.
The Drinks Cart – won last two, untried beyond 1100m, but settles well and has a good turn of foot when asked to go.
Not An Option – former Kiwi, G2 placed and last start before a spell was sixth in the G1 Champagne Stakes (1600m). Two trials to ready for this and blinkers go on.
Numbers: 3, 1, 5, 4.
Best: Exhilarates – gets the nod over Dawn Passage because of her good barrier (4). Two runs this prep’ latest behind that horse have been solid . Expected high tempo will suit
Dawn Passage – won last three, two-time winner at 1400m, drops 7kgs on Doomben win. Progressive type and versatile enough to cope with the wide barrier.
Niccanova – raced a little fresh when resumed with eye-catching second to Victorem. Track specialist winner to 1600m and another well in under the Hcp conditions.
Tyzone – drawn wide, but gets back anyway. Ran on strongly behind Victorem and will be getting home hard again. Ran second in this race last year.
Trekking – the best horse in the race, wide gate, big weight, but did win G1 last start and has to go in.
Numbers: 18, 16, 3, 6, 1.
Best: Aquitane – form impossible to fault, in the money seven of eight starts. Most recent worked early to cross and was a brave second to a smart one in Fituese, at Listed level and will strip fitter for the run.
Niedorp – consistent and didn’t run out a strong 1200m last start. Freshened and back to 1000m is a big plus.
Ruuca – down in grade after 6th in G3 GC Guineas. Was never a threat, but closed strongly and can be closer from the rails draw and looks the run on horse.
Numbers: 7, 5, 1.
