Favourite Loving Gaby has drawn barrier 12 in the 14-horse field Saturday’s Blue Diamond Stakes at Caulfield.
Loving Gaby remains $4.50 favourite for the Group 1 following her impressive debut win in the Chairman’s Stakes at Caulfield on February 2.
The Ciaron Maher and David Eustace-trained filly heads the James Cummings-trained Godolphin filly Athiri and Anthony Freedman’s filly Lyre, both on $7.50.
I Am Immortal, who won the colts & geldings divisions of the Blue Diamond Preview and Prelude at his only two starts drew nine and is $8.50.
Game Keeper, to be ridden by Barend Vorster, drew the coveted inside barrier while Shotmaker, a debut second to I Am Immortal on debut at Caulfield in the Blue Diamond Prelude on February 9, drew widest in 14.
One-time Diamond favourite Brooklyn Hustle was another to draw wide in barrier 11.
Trainer Jason Warren took Brooklyn Hustle to Caulfield on Tuesday morning for a gallop ahead of the filly’s bid to win the Blue Diamond.
Beau Mertens rode her on the course proper gallop in company with her elder stablemate Bel Sonic.
Mertens and Warren were both more than satisfied with the two-year-old’s hit-out.
“We had the option to take her out and gallop her at Pakenham and it’s a beautiful surface but we thought given the way she got around the home turn here at Caulfield in the Prelude that we would just give her another look at the track,” Warren said.
“Beau was rapt with her. She’s right where we need her now. We trained her to have that first-up run in the Prelude to bring her to a peak and not do it on the training track. We’ll know if it’s worked on Saturday.”
Ben Melham rode the filly in the Prelude but he sticks with unbeaten colt I Am Immortal in the Blue Diamond.
