Godolphin have taken the top two spots in Everest betting after it was announced unbeaten Charlie Appleby trained colt, Pinatubo could be set for the $14 million race.
Bivouac, who runs in tomorrow’s Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield, has been joined by Pinatubo as $8.00 equal favourite for the rich Randwick sprint. Pinatubo was added to the market at $26, but that was quickly gone.
Godolphin’s Australian head trainer, James Cummings, told RSN that Bivouac was the favourite to take their Everest slot. But with the race not until October 17 other horses could come into contention.
“He might be our No.1 Australian seed, but there’s a colt overseas called Pinatubo that looks a pretty impressive animal,” Cummings told RSN 927.
“If he’s going to be twice the chance of Bivouac in a race like that, then we’d be interested in running him.
“The beauty is we’ve got a high-class sprinter with Bivouac, and from my perspective, I’ll be making sure that we’ve got the horse ready to go for The Everest. If the time comes, he’s the horse we’ll be calling upon.”
The Everest is Australia’s richest race and since its inception in 2017, it has become the world’s highest-rated sprint.
