Champion mare Winx makes her final curtain-call in the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick and looks the only good thing for the day.
The traders have put together some Winx Specials for the meeting
Another 10-race card for The Championships and it doesn’t get much tougher than this.
Godolphin filly Amercement has raced well against tougher opposition than this with 6th behind Anaheed (G2) and 4th to Kiamichi in the G3 Magic Night. Amercement got back in those races so the 1600m is ideal and drops back to Listed grade. Wouldn’t surprise if she wins here and backs-up in the Champagne Stakes. Vinco consistent in weaker company. Autocratic will appreciate the mile. Significance was fair on debut in Maiden, has since trialled well and blinkers go on.
Best: Amercement. Dangers: Autocratic, Significance.
Krone had everything made to order coming off a hot tempo to win the Darby Munro (1200m) last start, in form. Wild Planet went hard in that race and did an outstanding job to hang on for second and meets Krone better at the weights. Fasika, Green Aeon and Millard Reaction all unbeaten in two runs and face a step-up in grade, Green Aeon has won this trip.
Best: Wild Planet. Dangers: Krone, Green Aeon.
Turnberry and Bobbing fought out the finish, at Wyong last start. Turnberry was game leading all of the way, but Bobbing’s run was super. He drifted back to second last, circled the field and hit the line so the long straight will suit. Archedemus has an outstanding record winning his last five starts and should box-seat. Fuchu is massive odds, but can improve on a drier track. Stablemate Spring Charlie ran a nice race in heavy going latest.
Best: Bobbing. Dangers: Archedemus, Spring Charlie.
Godolphin holds commanding position here with five runners, including Golden Slipper winner Kiamichi on a seven day back-up and her fifth run this prep’ has the blows big-time in betting. Stablemate Athiri also on the quick turn-around, apart from her Blue Diamond run Athiri has been a little soft at the end of 1200m. Cheer Leader bolted in at Moonee Valley (Listed), highly promising and well backed. Snowden stablemate Anaheed was far from disgraced in the Slipper, freshened for this. Pin Sec was a forget run in the Slipper when didn’t handle the heavy8.
Best: Cheer Leader. Dangers: Anaheed, Kiamichi.
Classique Legend beaten favourite last start when went out hard and tired behind Krone, ridden quieter this time will help. Avantage did it at both ends latest when led and fought back to beat Resin, tough Kiwi G1 winner. Encryption ran well in the Newmarket and then did best work late when 4th to Nature Strip in G1 Galaxy. Plenty of speed in this and slightly longer so Encryption should be suited. Baller battled away behind Nature Strip, wide alley won’t help.
Best: Encryption. Dangers: Avantage, Classique Legend.
Waller and J-Mac have done a super job with Verry Elleegant. The filly settled beautifully last start and made it two in a row in the Vinery. It will take an exceptional performance to beat Verry Elleegant. Frankly Awesome and Aristia chased home Verry Elleegant and look the main dangers again. Aliferous came from a long way back to win 2000m G3 latest, she will relish the step-up in distance.
Best: Verry Elleegant. Dangers: Aristia, Frankly Awesome.
Final race for Winx and just a matter of how far for the champ. Hartnell is racing as well as ever and comes off a great third in the Doncaster. Happy Clapper has chased home Winx in 10 previous meetings. Including five seconds, but is yet to win at 2000m. Harlem won the Australian Cup latest. Danzadanzdance dual G1 winner in NZ and will be better for her third to Avilius in the Ranvet.
Best: Winx. Dangers: Hartnell, Danzadanzdance.
Big Duke racing well with seconds at past two starts, latest behind Avilius. British stayer Dubhe won ratings race in Dubai (3200m), promising stayer, but short enough in betting and plenty of value elsewhere. Shraaoh hit the front too early when second to Gallic Chieftain in the Chairman’s Hcp last week, super fit. Yogi covered more ground than Burke & Wills last start, gets back but will finish off hard. Midterm beat Big Duke latest, will race on speed and has plenty of ticker. Sir Charles Road was third in this race last year and he savaged the line behind Gallic Chieftain.
Best: Yogi (each-way). Dangers: Dubhe, Sir Charles Road.
Alizee back against own sex after disappointing in the Doncaster and couldn’t find excuses, she’s quality, but hard to have on that run. Amphitrite raced well in All-Star Mile, drier the better for her. Nakeeta Jane G1 winner and very honest, wide gate makes it tough. Dixie Blossoms should be peaking, made up a lot of ground in the Doncaster. Invincible Gem found winning form in G2 latest, mare in form. Unforgotten can improve back against own sex and blinkers might help. Stablemate Prompt Response chased home Winx and subsequent Doncaster winner Brutal last start, comes into this third-up.
Best: Dixie Blossoms. Dangers: Prompt Response, Amphitrite.
Gold Coast mare Winter Bride edged out Spright in a G3 this track and distance latest. Perennial bridesmaid, Spright, then went on and finished second to Sunlight in the G1 William Reid. Can she find a way to get beaten again? I Am Excited finished midfield behind Nature Strip in the Galaxy. She wasn’t at home on the heavy, but still worked to the line and will be fitter for the run. Wide gate against Ellicazoom, but she did a good job for third in the William Reid. Resin is consistent and is third-up after solid second to Avantage last start.
Best: I Am Excited. Dangers: Spright, Resin.
