Winx is back, well almost.

The superstar mare will have her preparation stepped-up when she barrier trials at Rosehill on Monday.

Winx is scheduled to resume racing in the Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on August 18, with her ultimate mission a record fourth consecutive Cox Plate (2040m), at Moonee Valley on October 27.

Waller said on his website that he is more relaxed about training the the people’s champion, who has now notched 18 Group 1 wins and $18,998,424 in prizemoney. If Winx wins the race named after her she will notch her 26th consecutive win and edge ahead of Black Caviar.

“We’ve been training her long enough to almost be used to it. The first year was just like training any other horse, the second year the pressure was on with the expectation to keep her performing. Do we try new things, keep it the same? Her body was changing,” revealed Waller.

“The third year she went to a whole new level again, getting close to Black Caviar’s records and other records, but now she has reached her fourth year, it’s just like last year but we’ve been there before. I’m actually feeling quite relaxed about her.”

There is likely to be more interest in Monday’s trials than any race meeting next week. The field of 10 runners has amassed a total of 32 Group 1 wins.

Not only will Winx return in heat one, but superstar sprinter Chautauqua will also have a crucial trial that could decide his racing future. The grey sprinter, was barred by Racing NSW stewards and has to jump cleanly to gain a clearance to race again.

Joining them in the 900m trial is last year’s Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign and Victoria Derby winner Ace high.
