The Belarusian Premier League kicked off last week with fewer fans in the stands, but millions watching from around the globe. That makes sense when you realise it’s the only top flight league still playing.
Amazingly, in Week 1, none of the top four teams from last season had a win and in fact, three of them were beaten.
Last year’s champs Dinamo Brest drew 1-1 with promoted Smolevichi-STI, while high-profile teams BATE Borisov and Dinamo Minsk were upset, as was last year’s third place finisher Shakhtyor Soligorsk.
There were a total of three red cards across the eight games and Slutsk’s 3-1 win over Slavia Mozyr featured three goals from penalties.
